"Sisters Playing to Win"
They may say whatever they want.
But we know that what we knew will never
change.
They may call us all sorts of names to put us
down, buried our contributions to exalt self.
But we have not forgotten where we came from.
They may have taken away our make ups.
But our souls and spirits refuse to give up.
They may have bruised our self-esteems,
But we sure do have a lot live for knowing that
the journey is heavier than the destination.
We are sisters playing to win
We can dunk and jump
We have been there and done that.
They may say whatever they want but we know
that what we knew will never change.
Is it not said that they gene never lies,
Neither can snake give birth to a bird.
Our mothers played to win
They stood all odds to nature the birth of civilization.
In comfort and courage they fed heroes of the land on
top of the pyramids to immortalize the basics of forms and time.
They may have buried their scraps of history to deny
the present from tapping into the strength of the past.
But they can’t bury the trails of our past. Is it not
said by our ancestors that no matter the dampness
of ruining rain on the graceful body of guinea fowl,
its tribal marks will never fade.
Our mothers overcame heights so that we can jump and dunk.
They overcame failures so that we can will and win.
We are playing to win so that the trails our past no matter evil
plots of our foes will never be buried in sand of time.
